Five Incomplete Ranks and Their Preliminary Pipe Scales
There are separate toeboards for five ranks on the windchest, and though incomplete, there are five distinct ranks with different stop names identified in ink by hand. Of these five, only the Open Diapason has the same stop name clearly written by hand on both the pipes ["O Dia"] and on one of the two drawknob shanks controlling its two sliders ["Open Diapason"]. While it is presently difficult to match the remaining ranks with specific toeboards, two observations can be made. The more definite is that the second toeboard from the front of the windchest numbers 25 toe holes, ruling out the Twelfth from that location, as there are 29 pipes labeled with this stop name. The other is that the only stopped rank, labeled Flute, is the most likely candidate for the rear toeboard, which appears to be the location of a shared bass.
To date, only the Open Diapason has been measured, the toebard removed, and counts taken of holes on the sliders, the bottom and patched top of the toebard, and its three rackboards. Only the number of extant pipes for the other four ranks are given in the table below at this time. Please click on the O Dia link below to view its scale table and relevant information. This table and page will be updated as new information is gathered.
